What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at HydroJug?
SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Location: Ogden, UT (on-site)
ABOUT HYDROJUG
HydroJug is a Utah-based hydration and lifestyle brand built on a simple idea: drinking enough water should be easy, and the gear you do it with should look good. We sell direct-to-consumer, on Amazon, and through national retail, and we design, source, and ship our own products. That makes our books interesting: inventory moving from overseas factories through freight and customs into warehouses, and revenue arriving through several channels, each with its own fees, settlements, and deductions.
We are a lean team that moves quickly. You will not be one of a dozen staff on a single account reconciliation. You will own real areas of the close, and leadership will make decisions from the numbers you stand behind.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to own major parts of HydroJug's monthly close and the accounting behind our inventory and sales channels. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you will make sure the general ledger is accurate, reconciled, and on time. You will also be the person who can explain what moved and why.
This role is a strong fit for someone who has closed the books many times and wants to go deeper: someone as comfortable tying out an Amazon settlement as building a landed-cost accrual, and who leaves every process a little cleaner than they found it.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
MONTH-END CLOSE & GENERAL LEDGER
- Own assigned close workstreams: prepare journal entries, accruals, and prepaids, and reconcile balance sheet accounts on schedule every month.
- Review account activity and explain variances in plain language to the Accounting Manager and to the planning team.
- Help tighten the close calendar and checklist so the books close faster without losing accuracy.
INVENTORY & COST OF GOODS
- Account for inventory from purchase order to sale, including landed cost for freight, duties, and tariffs.
- Reconcile inventory in NetSuite to warehouse and third-party logistics counts, and investigate and resolve differences.
- Prepare cost-of-goods and inventory reserve analysis, and partner with operations on counts, write-offs, and product costing.
REVENUE & CHANNELS
- Reconcile Shopify, Amazon, and other marketplace settlements to the ledger, including fees, refunds, and reserves.
- Track retail customer deductions, chargebacks, and promotional allowances, and make sure they are recorded and supported.
- Support revenue recognition and the accounts receivable reconciliation across channels.
AUDIT, TAX & COMPLIANCE
- Prepare schedules and support for the annual audit or review, and for income tax filings with our outside advisors.
- Manage sales tax reporting and filings across the states where we sell, and keep the fixed asset register current.
- Document processes and controls, and improve how NetSuite and our tools support the close.
WHAT YOU BRING
- 4 years of progressive accounting experience, in public accounting, industry, or a mix of both, including owning month-end close work.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
- A strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, accrual accounting, and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Hands-on experience in an ERP. NetSuite is ideal; Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar also works.
- Advanced Excel skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and building reconciliations that others can follow.
- Clear communication and the judgment to know when a difference matters and when to escalate it.
BONUS POINTS
- CPA license, or progress toward one.
- Experience in consumer products, e-commerce, or omni-channel retail with physical inventory.
- Inventory costing, landed cost, or tariff and duty accounting.
- Reconciling Amazon Seller Central or Shopify payouts, or retail deductions.
- Multi-state sales tax experience, including tools such as Avalara.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
FIRST 90 DAYS
- You own your close workstreams end to end, your reconciliations are on time and clean, and you understand how inventory and channel revenue flow through the ledger.
FIRST 6 MONTHS
- Your inventory and channel reconciliations tie out every month with differences explained, and you have removed at least one manual step from the close.
FIRST YEAR
- You have carried the audit and tax schedules for your areas, the close runs measurably faster, and the Accounting Manager relies on you as the go-to expert for inventory and revenue accounting.
WHY HYDROJUG
You will work on a small finance team with real visibility to leadership, at a brand whose products people actually love, in a business where your work shows up in the numbers every month. Compensation, benefits, and perks will be reviewed with you during the interview process.
