What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Software Engineer position at Huxley?
Huxley is currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a small sized Chicago based company.
This role is a blend of building new features and improving what already exists. You'll spend time designing and shipping new functionality, but a significant portion is focused on modernizing a well-established codebase, making it faster, cleaner, and easier to maintain. If you enjoy turning legacy systems into something you're proud of, you'll thrive here; if you're only interested in brand-new projects, it may not be the best fit. The position includes 1-2 days per week in-office in Chicago.
Tech Stack
- Claude Code (used daily)
- Java (backend)
- Angular (frontend)
- AWS
What We're Looking For
- Regular use of AI coding tools, especially Claude Code
- Strong communication skills-you'll spend ~4-6 hours per week talking with customers
- Ability to shift between deep focus coding and customer conversations without losing momentum
- Interest in modernization work and improving existing systems
- A bias toward delivering real, working software rather than just discussing ideas
This role requires you to be a US Citizen or GC Holder.
