What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Inspector position at Huron County Building & Zoning?
Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, safety standards, and ordinance enforcement, including plan review of the installation and/or alteration of all building and structures. Provide County zoning inspections and Soil Erosion & Sedimentation Control (SESC) inspections, including plan review.
- Review construction plans, blueprints, and schematics to understand project requirements.
- Collect and document data related to the progress and quality of construction projects.
- Identify and report any violations or deficiencies in construction practices or materials.
- Collaborate with contractors, architects, and engineers to address any issues or concerns.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, findings, and corrective actions taken.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a licensed residential builder.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and construction documents.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify potential issues or discrepancies.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills to effectively communicate with contractors and other stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the State of Michigan residential and commercial building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Ability to become registered as a building inspector/plan reviewer under Public Act 407 of 2016 and have a valid Michigan driver's license in good standing.
