What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector position at Huron County Building & Zoning?
Responsibilities:
- Perform mechanical and plumbing inspections and code enforcement on construction sites of the installation or alteration to plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration systems to ensure compliance with project specifications and the Michigan Plumbing Code, including the plumbing & mechanical sections of the Michigan Residential Building Code.
- Analyze construction plans, schematics, and blueprints for plan review to understand project requirements.
- Conduct quality control inspections to verify the accuracy and completeness of construction work.
- Collect data and document inspection findings, including any deviations from specifications.
- Collaborate with construction management teams to address any issues or concerns identified during inspections.
Experience:
- Plumbing - An applicant for state registration as a plumbing inspector shall have at least 2 years of experience as a licensed journey worker or shall be licensed as a master plumber.
- Mechanical - An applicant for state registration as a mechanical inspector shall hold a mechanical license from this state in 3 of the 4 following categories for at least 1 year: (i) Hydronic heating and cooling and process piping; (ii) HVAC equipment; (iii) Refrigeration; (iv) Fire suppression. If the individual does not hold a mechanical license from this state, shall provide to the department an affidavit of experience from previous and current employers. The affidavit must comply with both of the following: (a) attest that the individual has been actively engaged in the performance of mechanical work in 3 of the 4 categories for 6 years under a licensed mechanical contractor: (i) Hydronic heating and cooling and process piping; (ii) HVAC equipment; (iii) Refrigeration; (iv) Fire suppression. (b) Attest that the licensed mechanical contractor who supervised the applicant was licensed in the required categories at the time of supervision. All applicants must posses the ability to become a licensed inspector pursuant the Skilled Trades Regulation Act, Public Act 407 of 2016 and have a valid Michigan's driver's license in good standing.
- Familiarity with construction inspection processes and procedures.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify potential issues or discrepancies.
- Excellent communication & organizational skills to effectively communicate findings and recommendations.
