Huntington Learning Center is seeking engaging, dependable tutors to support middle and high school students in a community-based after-school program in Aurora, IL.
This is a great opportunity for teachers looking to earn extra income after school, recent college graduates taking a gap year, or other academically strong individuals who want to make a difference with students.
The program operates as a structured study hall where tutors help students with homework, explain concepts, answer questions, and keep students focused and productive. Students may be working on a variety of subjects and assignments, so academic versatility and the ability to work with multiple students are important.
What We're Looking For
We are hiring tutors with complementary academic strengths:
- Math: Comfortable assisting with middle and high school math through Algebra 2
- ELA/General Academics: Strong in reading, writing, grammar, and other general middle/high school subjects
- Ability to support students across multiple subject areas is a plus
- Experience working with middle/high school students preferred
- Strong communication and small-group management skills
- Comfortable establishing expectations and redirecting students when necessary
- Patient, positive, dependable, and able to connect with students
Schedule
- Thursdays, 3:30–6:00 PM
- In-person in Aurora, IL
- Program runs September through April
- Because consistency is important to the students, candidates who can commit for the full program year are strongly preferred
Qualifications & Pay
- Bachelor's degree required
- $17–$20/hour, based on experience and qualifications
- No lesson planning or curriculum preparation required
Current/former teachers, substitute teachers, recent college graduates and individuals taking a gap year before graduate or professional school, experienced tutors, and other academically strong candidates are encouraged to apply.
