Laboratory Equipment Technician

The Laboratory Equipment Technician will serve as the first responder for equipment issues, perform preventive maintenance, manage vendor relationships, and ensure the lab environment remains fully operational. This role is essential to maintaining the throughput and quality standards of our organism engineering foundry.
Laboratory Equipment Technician Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary first responder for equipment errors and failures during the 2nd shift.
- Perform scheduled weekly and monthly in-house preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Conduct routine lab inspections and equipment system checks to ensure operational readiness.
- Perform low-level in-house repairs on laboratory and automation equipment.
- Deinstall and reinstall equipment including incubators (Infors), plate readers, plate sealers, and related instruments.
- Monitor cold storage systems and perform triage when issues arise.
- Participate in a 2-week rotation of 24-hour cold storage on-call coverage.
- Coordinate with automation equipment vendors; manage scheduling and communication for service visits and repairs.
- Maintain and restock lab consumables for automation equipment to support uninterrupted operations.
- Collaborate with Facilities, EHS, and Unity Lab Services on cross-functional equipment and lab needs.
Laboratory Equipment Technician Requirements:
- High school diploma with a minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience.
- 2nd shift availability is mandatory.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills and comfort with digital/technology tools.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move equipment in and out of tight lab spaces.
- Experience working in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Familiarity with automation equipment and laboratory robotics.
- Experience with pneumatic fittings, tubing, and in-house gas systems (nitrogen, compressed air, CO2).
- Demonstrated ability to deinstall and reinstall laboratory instruments.
