Expanding corporation in Montvale, NJ is looking to add an experienced Senior Accountant to their team! This position is responsible for leading the monthly financial close and reporting process while overseeing project accounting activities, including tracking work‑in‑process (WIP), project progress, and revenue recognition. This role ensures financial accuracy, supports operational teams with project performance insights, and strengthens internal controls within the accounting function.
Responsibilities
Monthly Financial Reporting
- Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of financial statements.
- Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, accruals, and journal entries.
- Prepare and analyze monthly budget-to-actual results, variance explanations, and trends.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Coordinate and support quarterly and annual audits as required.
Work-in-Process (WIP) & Project Accounting
- Oversee project accounting for all active jobs, including cost tracking, revenue allocation, and margin analysis.
- Maintain detailed WIP schedules; analyze key indicators such as percent completion, estimated costs to complete, and forecasted profitability.
- Partner with project managers to validate project progress, update forecasts, identify risks, and ensure accuracy of financial data.
- Monitor job costing, labor hours, materials, and subcontractor expenses to ensure proper allocation and completeness.
- Support revenue recognition processes (e.g., percentage-of-completion method) in accordance with accounting standards.
Financial Controls & Process Improvement
- Enhance and streamline accounting procedures, workflows, and reporting tools.
- Ensure strong internal controls are maintained across all accounting and project-related processes.
- Identify process inefficiencies and lead initiatives to automate and improve accuracy in financial reporting and project tracking.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with operations, project management, procurement, and leadership teams to provide financial insights and support decision‑making.
- Communicate financial performance, project trends, and strategic recommendations to management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting and project accounting.
- Experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing, or other project‑based industries
- Strong understanding of GAAP and WIP accounting principles.
- Advanced Excel skills and ability to analyze large data sets.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
