JOB DUTIES

  • Conduct small group classes with at-risk youth on topics including anger management, bullying, substance abuse, life skills, and other related areas
  • Work individually with at-risk youth, ages 10-18
  • Provide crisis intervention and assist families in decision making and problem resolution
  • Utilize a variety of approaches, such as social skills training, mindfulness training, cognitive/behavioral therapy, relaxation techniques, problem-solving training and anger management interventions.
  • Meet and regularly communicate with parents and guardians to discuss student challenges, progress, and planning.
  • Work with clients to develop healthy anger management goals and assess progress
  • Accurately and efficiently complete paperwork, reports, and progress updates of students and families
  • Coordinate programs with other departments, professionals, and outside agencies
  • Refer clients to outside state and community resources
  • Monitor student compliance or non-compliance
  • Accurately and consistently collect data
  • Schedule classes and appointments
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge or experience with at-risk children and youth, including knowledge/experience with mental health, anger, trauma, or substance abuse issues
  • Passion for working with youth and their families
  • Willingness to openly discuss difficult and sensitive issues with youth and families
  • Excellent sense of self-awareness
  • Knowledge of principles and best practices as related to education, risk assessment, and family crisis intervention techniques
  • Entry level case management techniques including: knowledge of family dynamics, motivational interviewing approaches, influence in changing negative behaviors
  • Highly skilled in interpersonal communications
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to effectively respond to conflict situations and people in conflict
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software, including email and MS Office programs
  • Ability to perform duties independently without close supervision

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Human Services, Social Work, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in social work, particularly youth development, is preferred
  • Experience in a nonprofit agency or a public human services agency is preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
