What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teaching Assistant position at Hudson Falls Central School District?
General Statement of Duties
Provide instructional supports to students under the the supervision of a certified teacher;
Provide the teacher with information that will assist the teacher with the development of
appropriate learning experiences;
Utilize special skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in special areas (e.g.
foreign language, arts, crafts, music, etc.);
Assist students in the use of available resources and in the development of instructional
materials.
Examples of Duties
Reteach lessons prepared and developed by the teacher;
Assist students with behavioral/management needs;
Assist with physical care tasks and health related activities as appropriate;
Assist with daily classroom setup/preparation as directed by the teacher;
Help students navigate the school environment;
Review previous lessons and concepts previously taught by the teacher;
Collect various student data as directed by the teacher (e.g. behavior intervention plans, IEP
goals, classroom management system, etc.);
Assist students in the use of assistive technology/instructional resources;
Working with individual or groups of pupils on special instructional assignments;
Become familiar with the student(s) IEP;
Communicate effectively with teacher and necessary staff members;
Foster student independence.
Job Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience
Level I: Teaching Assistant Requirements
High school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency
Passing score on the Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills (ATAS)
Completion of three workshops (Child Abuse Identification, School Violence Intervention and Prevention, and Dignity for All Students Act)
Level II : Teaching Assistant Requirements
9 semester hours of college coursework
1 year of experience as a teaching assistant
Level III: Teaching Assistant Requirements
18 semester hours of college coursework
Terms of Employment
The Teaching Assistant will be employed on a ten (10) month basis. Salary and benefits are determined by the HFTATAU contract and in conference with the Superintendent of Schools.
Evaluation
Yearly written evaluation is conducted.
Reports To
The Teaching Assistant reports to the Director of Special Education or his/her designee. Daily duties assigned by the building principal and classroom teacher.
