Senior Backend Software Engineer – Java/Kotlin & GCP
Overview / Summary
We are seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and support scalable backend applications and cloud-based services. This role involves building APIs, microservices, and distributed systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and maintainable software solutions.
This is a hybrid role requiring 4 days per week onsite.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with stakeholders to understand use cases and technical requirements
- Design, develop, and maintain backend applications, APIs, and microservices
- Build and support cloud-based and on-premise applications
- Collaborate with frontend developers, product owners, architects, and cross-functional teams
- Contribute to application architecture and backend service design
- Develop high-quality, production-ready code with strong focus on scalability, resilience, and maintainability
- Implement and maintain automated testing practices including unit, integration, API, and regression testing
- Support CI/CD pipelines and automated delivery workflows
- Manage application deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
- Implement secure coding practices including encryption and data protection measures
- Work with databases including Oracle, MySQL, and MongoDB
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical documentation
- Support production applications through debugging, incident resolution, and root cause analysis
- Mentor and support less-experienced engineers
- Promote engineering best practices including test-driven development, continuous integration, and continuous delivery
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 10 years of IT experience with 8 years in software development
- Strong backend development experience using Java and/or Kotlin
- Experience building backend services, APIs, and microservices
- Experience with Spring and Spring Boot frameworks
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and cloud-native application development
- Experience deploying and operating services using GCP Cloud Run
- Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts including scalability, resiliency, distributed systems, and secure service design
- Experience with GitHub and CI/CD workflows
- Experience with automated testing, integration testing, and test automation
- Experience designing and supporting RESTful and/or event-driven web services
- Experience supporting production systems including monitoring, debugging, and performance tuning
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and automated delivery processes
- Familiarity with DevOps and automation tools including Terraform, Jenkins, SonarQube, Checkmarx, Fossa, and GitHub Actions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working in collaborative Agile engineering environments
