As a Payroll And Benefits Manager, You Will…
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state, remote workforce of 400 employees
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations across jurisdictions
- Partner with HR and Finance to reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies
- Support FLSA classification audits and maintain accurate payroll system updates
- Manage expense reimbursement processing, audits, and policy compliance tracking
- Maintain documentation supporting audits and regulatory requirements
- Administer day-to-day benefits operations including enrollments, changes, and terminations
- Serve as a primary employee contact for benefits eligibility, elections, and routine questions
- Support ACA reporting, retirement plan deductions, and annual 401(k) audit preparation
- Coordinate with carriers and third-party administrators to resolve eligibility and file issues
- Deliver benefits orientation sessions for new hires
- Contribute to HR process improvement initiatives that enhance employee experience and operational efficiency
- Owning payroll processing in a multi-state environment with accuracy and confidence
- Working deeply inside BambooHR as a system of record—not just running payroll, but troubleshooting, auditing, and improving workflows
- Investigating payroll or benefits discrepancies and driving issues through resolution
- Navigating ambiguity when information is incomplete and determining next steps independently
- Supporting employees through complex claims or eligibility questions with care and clarity
- Explaining payroll and benefits topics clearly to employees, HR partners, and leadership
- Staying calm and structured under pressure, especially during reconciliation or reporting spikes
- Performing detailed payroll variance analysis and identifying root causes quickly
- Managing competing priorities while maintaining strong documentation discipline
- Communicating clearly in writing and cross-functionally with Finance and HR stakeholders
- Take ownership of payroll questions and follow them through to resolution
- Investigate anomalies confidently instead of escalating prematurely
- Communicate clearly and calmly with stakeholders during sensitive payroll situations
- Support employees with professionalism and compassion when navigating benefits issues
- Bring structure and clarity when processes are evolving or incomplete
- Operate as a trusted partner to HR and Finance leadership
- 5 years of payroll and benefits administration experience
- Demonstrated experience processing payroll for multi-state U.S. organizations
- Strong hands-on experience working in BambooHR
- Experience investigating payroll discrepancies, benefits claims issues, or reconciliation variances
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance and regulatory reporting requirements
- Experience supporting compliance across ACA, ERISA, HIPAA, and COBRA
- Experience preparing documentation for 401(k) audits
- Experience partnering cross-functionally with HR and Finance
- A bachelor’s degree in HR, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
- CEBS, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification
- Experience supporting a remote or distributed workforce
- Experience working with self-funded health plans
- Experience improving payroll or benefits processes in a scaling organization
- Experience supporting expense reimbursement compliance and audits
