HR Operations Specialist role | Retail / Luxury industry | New York, NY | hybrid position
Our client is a prestige French luxury retail house, is looking for a hands-on HR Operations Specialist, who genuinely enjoys the mechanics of HR: HRIS, benefits, payroll support, compliance, and the full employee lifecycle. You'll be one of four people on the HR team, reporting to the HR Manager, with direct visibility to senior leadership on a regular basis. It's a role with real ownership.
You'll be the person who keeps HR operations running smoothly day to day. That means managing the HR inbox and employee inquiries, supporting onboarding and offboarding, administering benefits and COBRA, assisting with payroll inputs and merit cycles, and keeping the HRIS and compliance reporting airtight.
What You'll Do
HR Administration & Employee Lifecycle
- Manage the HR inbox, respond to employee inquiries, and route requests appropriately
- Support onboarding, offboarding, and pre-boarding
- Maintain accurate employee records, including status changes and life events
- Manage leave programs, workers' compensation cases, and accommodation requests
- Handle employment verifications and other HR documentation
Benefits & Payroll Administration
- Administer benefits enrollment, changes, terminations, and COBRA
- Support open enrollment and benefits renewals
- Process and reconcile benefit invoices against budget
- Assist with payroll inputs, merit increases, and salary adjustments
- Track benefits-related rebates and reporting, including Form 5500 filings
Compliance, Reporting & HR Systems
- Maintain HRIS and dashboards, keeping employee data and org charts current
- Support compliance reporting including EEOC, BLS, Census, OSHA, and IRS filings
- Prepare periodic reports such as PTO close-outs and termination lists
- Assist with policy revisions, handbook updates, and acknowledgment tracking
Communications, Events & Special Projects
- Draft and distribute HR communications
- Support recognition programs, anniversaries, and company events
- Take notes and follow up on HR and town hall meetings
- Support special projects, product launches, and year-end processes
What You Bring
- Hands-on ADP experience is required
- Solid benefits administration background: enrollment, changes, COBRA
- 3 years of HR generalist experience, ideally within a lean, fast-paced company (200–500 employees)
- Strong Excel skills
- Working knowledge of HR policies and employment law
- Excellent organization and attention to detail, with the discretion to handle sensitive information
- A self-starter who's comfortable juggling multiple priorities without much structure around them
