What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Corporate Controller position at Hoxton Circle?
We're partnering with a growing, global multi-entity consumer business to find an Assistant Controller who is equal parts technical expert and proactive leader. This isn't a role for someone who waits to be told what to look for, but tailored for someone who can walk up to a balance sheet, spot the issues, and drive resolution!
What makes this role so unique? This position will be set for a fast track into a Controller seat, highly visible amongst the executive leadership team!
What you'll take ownership of:
- Lead and coordinate month-end close across accounting, AP, payroll, treasury, and business planning teams
- Prepare and consolidate financial statements under US GAAP (plus exposure to ITA GAAP & IFRS), including intercompany eliminations across 20 legal entities
- Own balance sheet reconciliations across revenue, inventory, AR, intercompany transactions, fixed assets, and accruals — and understand how each ripples through the GL
- Supervise a Sr. Staff Accountant (revenue / royalty accounting) and an external AR & collections team
- Partner strategically with revenue accounting — shaping GL flow between the P&L and balance sheet, not just executing entries
- Build and maintain SOPs, chart of accounts, and backup schedules for key P&L and BS line items
- Identify process improvements and leverage technology where appropriate
- Provide input on team structure, future hiring needs, and how the function should be built out
Requirements
- 6 years in general ledger / month-end close, with hands-on balance sheet fluency across multiple categories
- Proactive, analytical thinker >> identifies issues independently, coordinates with management, and runs point on resolution
- Strong GAAP knowledge; exposure to multi-entity consolidations and intercompany eliminations
- People leadership experience and the confidence to advise upward on team structure and resourcing
- Advanced Excel (index-match, sum-ifs, pivot tables); ERP experience (Microsoft Dynamics or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation
- Background in retail, consumer product goods (CPG), manufacturing and wholesale, or multi-unit consumer businesses - particularly focused on: fixed assets, heavy accruals, and inventory accounting
- Comfortable operating as a business partner, not just a technical accountant!
