Job Description
This role reports to the Advanced Power Systems directorate within Honeywell Aerospace Advanced and Applied Technology. As a Lead Software and Electrical Systems Engineer, you will work closely with a diverse team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to lead the development of high-performance power electronics and control systems for advanced turbine engine power systems, hybrid turbogenerator power systems, and advanced alternative power systems such as fuel cell and hybrid battery systems.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting power electronics control systems from requirements and architecture definition to electronics board, power conversion, and component design, embedded system software design and code development, and power electronics system assembly and validation in relevant system test environments. The ideal candidate is results-oriented and resourceful, has a pragmatic and hands-on approach to problem solving and risk management, has excellent written, verbal communications and team development skills, and has the confidence to drive and direct rapid-prototyping development programs.
You will be leading and developing embedded software and controls from the hardware to the applications layer for the development of power system engineering prototypes, and as such a thorough understanding of pragmatic system requirements definition, digital microprocessors, peripheral, communications, and analog/digital conversion electronics is imperative. Comfort with user interface design and development of user applications and utilities in Java, Python, C and C or other platform-independent environments is a big plus.

The annual base salary range for this position is $149,000-185,000 Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. This position is incentive plan eligible.

Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead software and power electronics control system development and testing for Advanced Power Systems including gas turbine power systems, hybrid electric turbogenerator systems, and alternative power systems such as fuel cell and battery systems.
- Own all power electronics controls development projects for Advanced Power Systems, optimizing project workload amongst yourself, team members from the Engines and Power Systems engineering organization, and 3 rd -party engineering services as needed. Prioritize work based on customer needs and strategic importance.
- Implement system embedded control firmware in C using an embedded RTOS and extensive and powerful existing codebase for advanced alternative power systems such as fuel cell or battery systems
- Drive object-oriented code architecture, maximizing code reuse and optimizing unit test and functional verification test efficiency and speed.
- Drive and shepherd code development, build, and verification processes. Champion a collaborative environment where multiple geographically disperse developers can effectively work on a large project.

YOU MUST HAVE
- B.S. or M.S. in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science.
- 5 years of object-oriented (C ) embedded software development experience, controlling electromechanical and power electronics systems
- 5 years of embedded software and power electronics project leadership experience, leading small code development teams and producing code that is proven in a production environment.
- Ability to interpret detailed electronic circuit schematics and understanding basic electronic circuit design.
- Knowledge of programming typical controllers used in power conversion and drives for rapid prototyping such as Opal-RT and dSpace and typical DSPs (such as TI F28388DZWTS)
- Experience validating power electronics and control systems in laboratory environments and interfacing systems under test with laboratory control environments such as Labview
- Experience in an Agile Scrum environment developing software controls for power conversion and drives for power systems ranging from 1kW up to 1MW power rating
- Demonstrated ability to champion bringing embedded control products through the entire lifecycle, from concept to design to implementation to testing to production to support.
- Experience applying Systems Engineering principles in the development of complex systems, including stakeholder analysis, requirements definition, system architecture and concept generation, trade-space exploration and concept selection, design definition and optimization, system integration and interface management, system safety, verification and validation, and commissioning and operations.
