SUMMARY:
The Church Sexton’s key responsibilities center around maintaining the organization, cleanliness, and overall appearance of the church campus and facilities. The Sexton is a crucial role in supporting the spiritual life of the congregation by ensuring that the physical space of the church is well-maintained and conducive to worship and community gatherings. Dedication to these tasks will contribute significantly to creating a welcoming and peaceful environment for church members and visitors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
·Hours: Sunday-Thursday, with occasional Saturday and evenings as needed to support special church functions (funerals, holidays, etc).
Maintenance: Recognizes issues and makes minor repairs, including changing light bulbs, changing air filters, light carpentry and minor plumbing repairs.
· Campus Grounds: Performs daily campus walks to ensure cleanliness, safety and security. Removes trash and debris (including effects left by overnight campers). Sets daily trash receptacles for pick up as needed and returns receptacles to stored locations. Monitors the campus irrigation system and stays in contact with Irrigation contractor as needed.
· Columbarium: Assists as needed with opening and closing the different styles of columbarium niches.
· Equipment and Storage: Cares for and manages the storage of church equipment (ladders, pressure washer, paint, pumps, power tools, traffic cones, extra tables, etc). Manages storage spaces and ensures access to equipment where required.
· Event Setups: Stays aware of church calendar and is responsible for event set ups in conjunction with the Facility Manager and Campus Care Associate. This may involve setting up chairs, tables, buffet line items, etc. Ensures rooms are put back to standard configuration after events.
· Minor repairs: Minor repairs to woodwork, doors, etc.
· Minor maintenance: Minor maintenance such as changing HVAC filters and troubleshooting plumbing issues.
· Special Event Support: Potential for staffing private events which are paid at a higher rate than regular wages.
· Safety: Must comply with all health and safety regulations, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and maintaining a safe environment for staff and visitors.
· Security: Ensures security of the church, including informing day-time visitors when they are in areas or engaged in activities that are not permitted on Holy Trinity’s campus. This can include the decision to inform the authorities if there are repeated issues.
· Seasonal Projects: Plans for and performs various facility projects throughout the year, including painting, window washing, patio table cleaning, and pressure washing patios and Terrace.
· Staff Meetings: Attend weekly staff meetings.
· Other Duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· High School diploma or GED required; some vocational or other technical education a plus.
· Minimum three years’ maintenance experience required, preferably at another religious institution.
· Some knowledge of OSHA requirements helpful

· Must possess a keen eye for detail to ensure that all areas of the church are in good repair, organized, and well-maintained.
· Must show respect for the sacred nature of the church and the spiritual activities conducted within it.
· Must be able to work some flexible hours, especially during special events and holidays.
· Must be able to work a shift on Christmas Eve as it is the busiest day of the church year. The day is split between the Sexton, Facilities Manager, and Campus Care Associate.

Valid Drivers’ License required.
