About The Role
Hoffmaster is committed to responsible growth, operational excellence, and a safe, high-performing manufacturing environment. We’re looking for a Plant Superintendent to oversee production operations, support Production Managers, and ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality output across the facility. In this role, you’ll be responsible for manufacturing performance, team leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous improvement. You’ll also work closely with union employees and partner routinely with Customer Service, Marketing, HR, Procurement, Engineering, Distribution, and other functions to keep operations running smoothly.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for manufacturing performance, team leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and continuous improvement. What You’ll Do
- Supervise and support Production Managers in all aspects of operations, with a focus on safety, quality, and production performance.
- Maintain a safe, clean work environment by educating teams on equipment use, control points, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with union employees.
- Follow and maintain all Food Safety, GMP, and HACCP guidelines.
- Track, report, and analyze key manufacturing performance metrics including safety, quality, and service.
- Supervise and support production staff, ensuring clear communication and consistent execution of daily responsibilities.
- Lead or participate in safety, operational, and cross-functional meetings as required.
- Model Hoffmaster’s values and Lean principles through daily actions and behaviors.
- Communicate effectively upward, downward, and across the organization.
- Ensure standardized work is followed and escalate issues when deviations occur.
- Troubleshoot operational issues, lead problem-solving efforts, and implement solutions that prevent recurrence.
- Work with Planning, Cost Accounting, and Production Managers to meet or exceed performance goals.
- Understand manufacturing capabilities, product features, asset performance, and throughput requirements.
- Partner with Accounting to manage costs; understand production rates, waste, and labor standards.
- Collaborate proactively with Marketing, Procurement, Planning, HR, Finance, Sales, and other internal partners.
- Supervise plant colleagues and daily operations across multiple functions.
- Delegate assignments and schedule work for production teams.
- Coordinate daily activities with other departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Prepare and review production reporting, paperwork, and other required documentation.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Ability to identify waste, prioritize improvements, and guide teams toward activities that optimize manufacturing performance.
- Strong understanding of Lean methodologies, including PDCA cycles.
- Ability to identify organizational priorities, measure performance, and drive team-based results across functions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships and communicate clearly at all levels.
- Proactive mindset—acts without prompting and challenges outdated practices.
- Strong decision-making skills using data, tools, and analysis.
- Customer-focused mindset with a clear understanding of internal and external customer requirements.
- Experience applying project management and analytical methods to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
- Ability to meet production schedules while optimizing cost, efficiency, uptime, and scrap.
- Knowledge of union contracts and related processes.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop employees, build teams, coach effectively, and delegate tasks.
- Broad knowledge of facility operations, equipment, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience in printing or paper converting is preferred.
