The Aqua Board Instructor leads fun, water-based fitness classes using floating boards designed to challenge balance, build core strength, and boost cardiovascular fitness. Certification is preferred, but training opportunities are available for the right candidate who demonstrates strong instructional skills and enthusiasm for aquatics fitness.
Essential Functions
- Lead two Aqua Board fitness classes per week following YMCA program standards.
- Guide participants through balance, strength, and cardio exercises on floating boards.
- Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, and modifications for participants of all abilities.
- Foster an energetic, inclusive, and motivating class atmosphere that promotes confidence and fun.
- Safely set up, monitor, and store all Aqua Board equipment before and after classes.
- Build strong, positive relationships with participants, encouraging engagement and consistency.
- Stay current with aquatics fitness and Aqua Board training techniques and trends.
- Promote other YMCA wellness programs and support the overall member experience.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Certification in Aqua Fitness, Aqua Board, or Group Exercise preferred (YMCA, ACE, AFAA, FITFLOAT, BogaFit, or similar).
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Prior experience in aqua fitness, body board techniques, or group instruction preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage participants of diverse ages and abilities.
- Passion for fitness, teamwork, and the YMCA’s mission of strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
