What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Attorney position at HNE?
Overview
Our client, a stable and well-established law firm, is seeking an Illinois-licensed Associate Attorney to join its foreclosure and title litigation team in Naperville. This is a hybrid opportunity offering a structured, low-burnout environment with consistent courtroom exposure, primarily through daily virtual hearings rather than trial work.
The role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys litigation but prefers a predictable schedule, strong work-life balance, and a collaborative team environment. You’ll work with a small local team (6–7 members) while supporting a broader multi-state practice.

- Handle status calls, routine hearings, and case progression matters
- Review and analyze complaints, pleadings, and legal filings
- Manage a steady caseload of foreclosure and title-related matters
- Support resolution of title issues and ensure marketable title delivery
- Maintain organized case files and ensure deadlines are met
- Collaborate with internal staff and out-of-state teams
Requirements
- Active Illinois Bar admission
- 5 years of legal experience
- Prior courtroom/hearing experience with ability to appear independently
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage both litigation tasks and document-heavy workflows
- Willingness to work hybrid and be in the Naperville office 1–2 days/week
Ideal Candidate
- Litigation-focused but prefers hearings over trial-heavy practice
- Friendly, professional, and team-oriented (low-ego environment)
- Values stability, predictable hours (9–5), and long-term role consistency
- Comfortable with a role that prioritizes balance over rapid career growth
- Brings experience in foreclosure, real estate, or title work—or transferable skills and willingness to learn
- Organized and process-driven, with strong case management habits
