What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Director, Indirect Procurement position at HMSHost?
Purpose: The Senior Director for Indirect Procurement is responsible for leading the indirect procurement strategy, vendor management, and spend optimization across all categories of indirect spend. This role establishes procurement frameworks, policies, and processes to drive cost savings, supplier performance, and operational efficiency while ensuring compliance and risk management across the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Develops and executes the enterprise indirect procurement strategy including category management, supplier consolidation, and spend analytics to drive cost optimization and organizational value
- Researches, discovers, and establishes new indirect vendor relationships across multiple areas of the company to provide savings to all lines of business.
- Implements new cost savings programs, ensures compliance, and provides reporting showing the sustained savings
- Leads vendor selection, contract negotiation, and relationship management for indirect spend categories including professional services, facilities, IT, marketing and other non-product expenditures
- Establishes procurement policies, procedures, and governance frameworks to standardize purchasing practices and ensure compliance across all business locations
- Partners with senior leadership across Finance, Operations, IT, Marketing, and other departments to identify cost savings opportunities and strategic sourcing initiatives
- Conducts comprehensive spend analysis and market intelligence to identify trends, benchmark performance, and develop data-driven procurement strategies
- Develops and manages multi-year procurement roadmaps including supplier rationalization, contract consolidation, and process improvement initiatives
- Leads high-value negotiations with strategic suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, and service level agreements
- Implements procurement technology solutions and tools to enhance spend visibility, compliance, and operational efficiency
- Establishes key performance indicators and reporting mechanisms to track procurement savings, supplier performance, and compliance metrics
- Owns the administration of procurement support systems (i.e. travel platforms), and contract management systems
Reporting Relationship: This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Supply Chain & Logistics

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment:
- The combination of education and professional experience must exceed 10 years:
- In a leadership role: Requires 5 years of experience leading a team of professionals engaged in developing and executing indirect procurement programs or cost savings initiatives
- In a technical role: Requires 10 years of experience engaged in developing and delivering indirect procurement programs or cost savings initiatives
- A bachelor’s degree in a program related to the functional area can count for 3 of the ten-year requirement
- An MBA or a master’s level degree in a program related to the functional area can count for an additional 2 years of the ten-year requirement
- In the industry: 3-5 years of Hospitality, F&B and/or Retail experience
- Professional certifications such as CPSM, CPM, or CIPS preferred
Specialized Training:
- Training that leads to an expert level understanding of strategic sourcing, category management, procurement best practices, and business systems
- Training in contract law, negotiation strategies, and supplier relationship management preferred
Specialized Skillsets/Competencies/Traits:
- Demonstrated expertise leading procurement transformations and delivering measurable cost savings and operational improvements
- Exceptional negotiation skills with proven track record of securing favorable commercial terms in complex, high-value agreements
- Strong analytical capabilities with ability to leverage spend data and market intelligence to drive strategic decision-making
- Excellent communication skills with ability to influence senior leadership and build cross-functional partnerships
- Advanced software skills with Excel, SAP, and other accounting packages
- Advanced business acumen and also has the strategic mindset required to understand the long-term implications of procurement decisions and to advance the organization’s goals
- Demonstrated history of anticipating the needs of the business and complex stakeholders
- Demonstrated history of creating and maintaining positive work environments through coaching, developing, and leading teams to achieve common goals
- Demonstrated experience exhibiting a continuous improvement mindset with the ability to optimize work processes and achieve positive results
Location/Travel:
- This role is located at the North America Support Center in Bethesda, MD
- This role may require up to 25% travel to support business needs

Salary : $153,500 - $185,000
