The Manager, Ancillary Products & Programs is a working manager accountable for both strategic leadership and hands‑on execution of HMSA's ancillary product and program portfolio (e.g., dental, vision, life, disability, supplemental benefits, and health programs).
This role manages day‑to‑day product and program work while also setting portfolio direction, ensuring financial and operational performance, overseeing vendor‑partnered offerings, and functioning as a market‑facing consultant to Sales, Account Management, and employer clients.
The Manager balances execution with leadership--directly owning products and programs where appropriate, leading and developing product/program staff, prioritizing work, and serving as the primary escalation point to ensure offerings are competitive, compliant, operationally ready, and financially sustainable.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and five years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
- One year of leadership experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Intermediate working knowledge in Microsoft Office applications, e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams.
- Ancillary Product Strategy & Portfolio Management
- Define and execute the ancillary portfolio strategy and roadmap, while owning assigned products and benefits.
- Make prioritization and lifecycle decisions (launch, refresh, bundle, rationalize, sunset) and execute approved changes.
- Identify, design, and implement opportunities to expand or optimize offerings and integrate ancillary bundles with major medical.
- Develop and present data driven business cases; translate approved strategy into actionable workplans.
- Serve as subject matter expert and day to day decision maker for assigned ancillary products.
- Product Development & Operational Execution
- Lead and execute development, maintenance, and implementation of new products, benefit enhancements, and refreshes.
- Coordinate day work with Marketing, Sales, Operations, IT, Legal, Compliance, and AMS to ensure accurate configurations, and launches.
- Draft, review, and approve product documentation (GTB, EOC, certificates, marketing and internal materials).
- Evaluate and respond to custom or ad hoc ancillary requests, providing timely, practical recommendations.
- Program Management & Optimization
- Directly manage ancillary related programs from design through implementation and optimization.
- Translate strategy into program scope, milestones, success metrics, risks, and mitigation plans, and track progress day to day.
- Monitor participation, outcomes, experience, financial impact, and vendor performance; adjust programs as needed.
- Scale, integrate, enhance, or sunset programs based on results and strategic fit.
- Vendor & Partner Execution
- Manage day to day vendor relationships alongside strategic oversight, including issue resolution, performance guarantees, and enhancements.
- Collaborate with vendors on benefit design, reporting, operational fixes, and innovation.
- Ensure vendor deliverables align with product design, compliance requirements, and customer experience expectations.
- Financial & Performance Management
- Actively monitor and manage portfolio performance across membership, revenue, cost trends, utilization, outcomes, and customer impact.
- Partner with Actuarial, Finance, and Underwriting on pricing and sustainability, and execute approved pricing or benefit changes.
- Identify performance issues and lead corrective actions (benefit design changes, vendor adjustments, program redesign).
- Market-Facing & Internal Consultation
- Serve as a hands on consultative resource for Sales and Account Management on ancillary strategy, benefit design, and bundling.
- Participate in client meetings, renewals, finalist presentations, and benefit strategy discussions.
- Translate complex product and program details into clear, actionable messaging for internal and external stakeholders.
- People Leadership, Prioritization & Compliance
- Lead, coach, and develop product/program staff while remaining directly involved in execution.
- Assign work, set priorities, review deliverables, and remove obstacles.
- Serve as escalation point for complex products, programs, or vendor issues.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, contractual, and policy requirements across all ancillary offerings.
- Lead or work with other departments on miscellaneous projects related to products, benefits, and programs.
- Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directed.
