Position Summary
The Grit Blast Operator is responsible for preparing surfaces using grit blasting equipment, including removing contaminants. They operate equipment, load abrasives, and ensure products meet specifications.
Responsibilities
- Operates machinery to direct abrasive-laden air over surfaces to remove contaminants and achieve a desired finish
- Shovels or pours specified grades of abrasive materials such as Aluminum Oxide and glass beads into the machine hopper
- Prepares surfaces for painting, or removing other contaminants
- Examine finished products to ensure they meet specified requirements for quality control
- Maintains grit blast equipment and ensures adherence to safety protocols
- May perform minor maintenance tasks on equipment
- May perform other duties as assigned, such as receiving goods, positioning parts, or preparing materials for shipment
Requirements
- Prior experience using abrasive blasting equipment and techniques is preferred
- Ability to read and interpret plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities
- General knowledge of grit blasting and component finishing techniques and equipment
- Written and verbal communication skills
- General knowledge of Office 365 applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
- Work independently, follow instructions, and concentrate for long periods of time
- Strong attention to detail and thoroughness
- May require physical strength for tasks like shoveling abrasives
- A strong understanding of safety procedures related to abrasive blasting equipment
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
