Job Title: Test Engineer II (New Glenn Spaceflight Systems)
Location: Kent, WA
Duration: 6 Months Contract (Possible Extension)
Pay Rate: $65/hr.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Test Engineer II to support the development, qualification, and production testing of critical spaceflight hardware for the New Glenn launch vehicle program. This role will be responsible for planning, executing, and analyzing test campaigns for mechanical, hydraulic, cryogenic, pneumatic, and actuated systems. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on testing experience, strong data analysis skills, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to ensure safe, reliable, and repeatable testing activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and execute component and subassembly test campaigns for New Glenn spaceflight systems.
- Author, maintain, and improve detailed test procedures, work instructions, and test documentation.
- Conduct test readiness reviews, pre-test briefings, and post-test data reviews.
- Analyze test data and verify performance against design and qualification requirements.
- Collaborate with design engineers to define test objectives, requirements, and acceptance criteria.
- Work closely with operations engineers and technicians to integrate testing into existing test facilities and stands.
- Identify and procure required test fixtures, instrumentation, tooling, and support equipment.
- Support the design and implementation of data acquisition, instrumentation, and automation systems.
- Troubleshoot test anomalies and drive root-cause investigations.
- Improve testing efficiency, throughput, and quality while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards.
- Support manufacturing, qualification, and production efforts to ensure timely hardware delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in component testing, validation, and data analysis.
- Experience developing and executing engineering test procedures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency with engineering data analysis and reporting tools.
- Passion for aerospace, spaceflight, and advanced technology development.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of industry experience in aerospace, launch vehicles, satellites, aviation, motorsports, or oil & gas.
- Experience testing pressurized systems (up to 6,000 psi), cryogenic systems, hydraulic systems, or electromechanical actuators.
- Strong understanding of valves, regulators, actuators, servo-valves, fittings, and fluid systems.
- Experience with sensors, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and automated test equipment.
- Familiarity with environmental testing standards such as SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-1540, and MIL-STD-810.
- Experience with vibration, thermal, proof pressure, leak, and qualification testing.
- Knowledge of precision-clean hardware and contamination control requirements.
- Experience with data processing, reduction, and statistical analysis techniques.
