Learn About a Day In the Life of a Surgical Tech:
- Assist the physician in the direct care of patients in the operating room environment.
- Handles instruments and supplies necessary during the surgical procedure.
- Competent in the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
- Ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure.
- Maintain sterile field.
- Demonstrate proper handling of surgical specimens.
- Assist in cleaning, both routine and terminal and stocking the operating room.
- Adhere to Association of Surgical Technologists and Association of Operating Room Nurses guidelines.
Job Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
- Must become certified through the NCCT or NBSTSA within one year of hire.
- BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
- High School diploma or GED.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Surgical Tech.
