Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and timely file the company’s recurring indirect tax returns and remit the associated payments, including property tax, sales and use tax, and business & occupation (B&O) tax, ensuring all obligations are met accurately and by their deadlines.
- Maintain the property tax compliance calendar, including property tax renditions and returns across the company’s jurisdictions.
- Prepare and file federal excise tax forms, including Form 720 (quarterly federal excise tax return) and Form 8849 (excise tax refund/credit claims), and submit required zero filings.
- Prepare monthly tax journal entries and accruals as part of the month-end close.
- Prepare monthly terminal and gallon reconciliations and the supporting schedules that feed the company’s excise tax filings and information returns.
- Manage the company’s surety bonds and related premium payments — ensuring timely renewals, and that premium and bulk bills are accurately prepared, posted, and paid — and maintain licensing and registration requirements.
- Complete periodic regulatory and energy reporting (such as Department of Energy filings) on the required cadences.
- Support annual information reporting, including Form 1099 preparation and filing.
- Research and resolve jurisdictional notices and discrepancy letters.
- Maintain the standardization of returns, supporting schedules, and work papers; document and improve procedures (SOPs); and identify opportunities to streamline and automate.
- Assist with jurisdictional audit requests by providing supporting documentation as needed.
- Provide cross-functional support to other areas of the Finance team as needed, particularly during peak periods.
- Assist management with various projects and tasks as needed; other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency with core accounting concepts, such as debits/credits and account and inventory reconciliation.
- Familiarity with SAP (or a comparable ERP/accounting system).
- Ability to multitask with attention to detail across competing priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel required, including comfort using functions and pivot tables.
- Adheres to professional standards for the protection of confidential, proprietary, and personally identifiable information.
- Ability to independently develop solutions to problems/challenges as they arise.
- Flexibility to work additional hours during peak periods.
Experience/Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Corporate tax and/or general accounting experience is preferred but not required.
Salary : $82,000 - $88,000
