What are the responsibilities and job description for the DevOps Manager position at High Country Search Group?
RECRUITER OVERVIEW:
Hello! I'm Kass. I've got over 8 years of Tech Recruiting experience and work very closely with Denver-based teams. What these companies have in common is that they ALL are looking to Hire "Uncommonly Good" Founding, Senior, Lead, Staff & Principal Software Devs ... and of course, the Leaders of these Software Development Teams.
Role Overview: DevOps Manager
We are seeking a DevOps Manager to lead, mentor, and empower our cloud and engineering operations. This role is designed for a strategic, high-EQ leader who thrives on building strong cross-functional relationships, navigating ambiguity, and unblocking engineering teams.
Rather than writing code day-to-day, you will drive our DevOps vision, establish best practices, and serve as a collaborative partner to software development and infrastructure teams. If you excel at bringing out the best in people, refining delivery pipelines, and guiding cloud architecture strategies, we’d love to connect.
Key Responsibilities
- People & Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of DevOps/SRE professionals, fostering a culture of high collaboration, psychological safety, and continuous learning.
- Strategic Vision & Process: Define the DevOps roadmap, optimizing CI/CD workflows, infrastructure automation strategies, and operational excellence across projects.
- Unblocking & Facilitation: Drive high EQ leadership to clear technical and organizational roadblocks, encourage cross-team pairing, and resolve ambiguous technical challenges.
- Architecture & Governance: Oversee Azure cloud environments, containerization strategy (AKS), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) standards without needing to manage day-to-day scripting.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with C#/.NET development leads, product managers, and security teams to align infrastructure capabilities with business goals.
Strict Location Requirement: You must currently reside in the Denver metro area with a current Colorado address and be able to commute to our Denver Tech Center (DTC) office 3–4 times per week.
Applications from candidates outside Colorado or unable to meet the hybrid DTC schedule will be automatically rejected.
- Sponsorship: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements.
- Contract Status: Direct hire only. Not open to C2C or third-party agencies.
Required Skills & Experience
- Management & Leadership Experience: Proven track record in a DevOps Manager, SRE Lead, or Engineering Management role, with a focus on people management and team enablement rather than hands-on execution.
- Azure Cloud Focus: Deep strategic familiarity with Azure fundamentals and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). (Note: We are looking for recent, primary experience in Azure, not AWS).
- Technical Oversight: Technical literacy in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), containerization, and modern deployment pipelines to effectively guide architectural decisions and review team output.
- Ecosystem Familiarity: Strong understanding of supporting C#/.NET application environments and continuous integration patterns.
