What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Accountant position at High Country Search Group?
My Client is looking for a Project Accountant to support our Colorado Springs operations team and serve as a key link between accounting and project management. You will own essential project-finance activities, help project managers understand what is happening financially across their jobs, and work directly with customers on billing-related matters.
This role reports through the accounting organization while working day-to-day with the Colorado Springs business unit. Operations is your primary internal customer, so success requires both strong accounting fundamentals and the ability to build trusted, collaborative relationships.
The position is based in the Colorado Springs office, with an initial expectation of working on site five days per week. Some flexibility may become possible after you have mastered the role and established strong working relationships with the team.

- Process change orders and maintain accurate project financial information
- Manage compliance documentation, including lien waivers and certificates of insurance
- Partner closely with project managers and the business unit director to answer questions about billings, change orders, job costs, and overall project financials
- Investigate discrepancies and provide clear, timely answers to operational partners
- Communicate with customers regarding project billing matters
- Build strong relationships across accounting and operations while maintaining accountability and follow-through
- Learn and work within Spectrum
What we're looking for
- Accounting knowledge and experience working with numbers and financial information
- Experience with project accounting, construction accounting, cost accounting, or another relevant accounting environment is preferred
- Familiarity with construction-focused accounting or ERP software is helpful; direct Spectrum experience is not required
- Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly
- Strong communication, listening, and relationship-building skills
- Curiosity and a willingness to ask thoughtful questions
- A growth mindset, sound judgment, and the emotional intelligence to work effectively across teams
- Humility, ownership, and the ability to acknowledge and learn from mistakes
- A collaborative, approachable style and a commitment to supporting internal customers
