Position Summary
Perform duties to build, repair and maintain all tooling so that it performs to the required safety, quality and production standards, Works to make tooling improvement as required, make detail and fixtures as required.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Work from Complicated blue prints, work orders, sketches or instructions.
- Disassemble, clean and reassemble tooling, jigs, fixtures, etc.
- Disassemble troubleshooting tooling, quality issues,
- Ability to weld all types tooling steel & repair machines as required.
- Ability to make complicated details and fixtures from examples.
- Ability to make best practice calls on complicated tool repairs.
- Acquire any additional skill to set up and operate tool room equipment such as a lathe, mill, surface grinder, drill press, EDM sinker & wire etc., used to perform the required work.
- Follow all safety rules and keep the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Ability to repair damaged or broken details and or make new as required.
- Ability to operate presses for tooling adjustments & required repairs.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education
- Completed required apprenticeship schooling.
Functional Experience
- Has strong understanding of safety procedures around Stamping equipment & large tooling.
- Has strong understanding of reading material strips to troubleshoot die conditions & diagnose required repairs needed.
- Has a strong understanding of stamping die design & operation.
Industry Experience
- Experience in automotive tooling
- Experience in the automotive production environment.
Core Competencies
- Able to diagnose and repair all types of tooling that Hi-lex runs
Physical Requirements
- Lift dies with assistance of an overhead crane.
- Factory environment with noise from the manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to moving equipment parts, electrical shock, and also exposed to possible burns from hot die castings.
- Possible serious injury due to carelessness around equipment (Lathe, Mill, Surface Grinder, Drill Press, etc.)
- Occasionally lift, carry, or move objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
- Regularly lift, carry or move objects weighing more than 25 pounds.
Other Requirements
- Covers for vacations or absenteeism of operators on different shifts.
- Uses hand tools, cranes, grinders, calipers and gauges.
- May use power industrial trucks, and hand pallet jack.
- Interacts with manufacturing on potential quality problems & determines appropriate counter measures.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a high volume work environment.
