Job Description
Hilo Benioff Medical Center is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Pharmacy Aide to support the daily operations of the Pharmacy Department. Working under the supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Aide assists with medication packaging, inventory management, medication delivery, and other support functions that help ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepackage medications, including unit-dose oral solids, oral liquids, and other pharmacy products according to established procedures.
- Restock pharmacy inventory, pull medications for pharmacy technicians, and assist with medication ordering and stock control activities.
- Answer pharmacy telephone calls, take detailed messages, and support communication between pharmacists, nursing units, and other departments.
- Deliver medications to patient care units, tube medications to hospital floors, and notify staff of medication transmissions.
- Perform inventory and expiration-date checks throughout the hospital, including crash carts, emergency medication boxes, and pharmacy storage areas.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment while adhering to infection control, patient safety, and confidentiality standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- No prior experience required.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions, perform basic arithmetic calculations, and work effectively with others in a healthcare setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience in a hospital, pharmacy, or other medically related environment.
- Knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication packaging procedures, inventory management, and hospital policies and procedures.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accurate records and communicate effectively.
Substitutions for Experience
The following may substitute for the required experience:
- Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program and/or current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
- Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program or current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure.
Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college or university.
CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) in Health Care Provider (adult, child and infant) is preferred. Please submit copy of certification with the application.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements
Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

Shift Details
Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary based on hospital operations. Services are provided 24/7.
