HHM Talent is assisting a client in their search for an Automotive Chief Financial Officer in Auburn, AL.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to lead the financial strategy and oversight of a multi-rooftop automotive dealership group based in Auburn, AL. This role will work closely with ownership to manage cash flow, support growth, improve profitability, and provide clear financial reporting across all locations.

The CFO will oversee the Controller, who manages financial statements, factory reporting, floor plan activity, internal controls, and payroll and benefits administration. The CFO will also take ownership of banking relationships, capital planning, systems consistency, and the group's compliance calendar.

Responsibilities

• Manage cash flow and working capital across all locations.
• Maintain banking relationships, including operating lines, real estate debt, and floor plan financing.
• Review fixed and variable expenses, departmental performance, and opportunities to improve profitability.
• Prepare monthly financial packages and KPI reporting for ownership.
• Lead capital expenditure planning for facilities, equipment, and technology.
• Coordinate tax planning with the outside CPA firm and support factory audits.
• Drive consistency in DMS processes and financial systems across rooftops.
• Oversee the Controller's work on financial statements, factory composite reporting, floor plan curtailments and payoffs, and floor plan audits.
• Ensure effective internal controls for cash, inventory, F&I, parts, and service.
• Oversee dealer license renewals, franchise agreement filings, dealer bonds, insurance renewals, workers' compensation audits, business licenses, and sales tax registrations across applicable rooftops and states.
• Maintain oversight of Safeguards Rule and privacy documentation, OSHA records, records retention policies, and compliance deadlines.
• Provide leadership with regular reporting on upcoming renewals and compliance obligations.
  
  

Qualifications

• Senior financial leadership experience within an automotive dealership group.
• Strong knowledge of dealership financial statements, factory reporting, floor plan financing, and dealership operations.
• Experience managing banking relationships, cash flow, budgets, and capital expenditures.
• Ability to lead a Controller and work directly with ownership on financial decisions.
• Familiarity with multi-rooftop compliance requirements and dealership DMS platforms.
• Strong communication skills and a practical, hands-on approach to solving problems.
