Transportation Supervisor

Overview

Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Transportation Supervisor in Albuquerque, New Mexico to join our team.

Duties And Responsibilities

• This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
• Safely direct and control Herzog Transit Services, Inc. train operations employees in the day-to-day activities of train operations in railroad, train yard, and train station environments.
• Conduct operational testing by observing, documenting, and evaluating safe work practices per GCOR, ABHT, and Safety Rules, communicating results and utilizing progressive discipline, if necessary. Participate in employee meetings and programs to emphasize safety and address safety issues.
• Perform duties under the guidance of the Manager of Operations and Safety and the Deputy General Manager/General Manager
• Assist in accident/incident investigations and complete required reports
• Meet the strategic and tactical goals of our key measurements by managing equipment and staff, reporting results and recommending solutions. Metrics include but are not limited to safety, on time performance, customer service, and budgetary compliance.
• Exercises leadership and supervision over rail operations which are composed of Engineers, Conductors and Ticket Agents. Provide counsel and guidance of, and render performance appraisal evaluation of, personnel.
• Provide quality assurance of Commuter Rail Service, as well as the safety, efficiency, and responsiveness of the systems to the public it serves.
• Assist during service disruptions and subsequent recovery in the supervision of crew, and equipment utilization, as well as passenger notifications.
• Train new employees and provide continuing education for our existing employees, in accordance with federal regulations and company policies.
• May serve as a first responder to critical incidents.
• Assist with 49 CFR 240 records.
• Assist with 49 CFR 242 records.
• Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
• Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
• Other duties as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work any shift including nights, mornings, weekends and split shifts on a rotating schedule.
• Must be Conductor and Engineer Certified and obtain/maintain NMRX territory qualifications.
• Knowledge of rules and regulations that affect rail operations, maintenance, and engineering systems.
• Ability to be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  
  

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
• Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
• This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
• Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
  

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

• Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to one-half mile.
• Maintain balance for an extended period of time while train is in motion.
• Must be able to be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to moderately loud noises on a daily basis.
• Work in a confined access/space environment with a width of 16 inches.
• Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind.
• Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
• Able to tolerate repetitive movements, squatting/bending, and overhead reaching.
• Able to lift up to shoulder height and horizontally transfer up to 35 pounds for a distance up to 10 feet.
• Regularly kneel, bend, squat for extended periods of time.
• Regularly reach overhead.
• Regularly grasp/squeeze equipment with a force up to 20 pounds.
• Regularly ascend/descend a platform with a height of up to 36 inches from the floor.
• Regularly ascend and descend an 8 step ladder while carrying up to 20 pounds.
• Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
• Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
• Able to work in a safety sensitive work environment.
