Herrick Feinstein LLP
York, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 7/31/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/31/2026
Herrick, Feinstein LLP is seeking a Conflicts Attorney to join its Conflicts & Information Governance team in a highly visible, partner-facing role. Herrick is a prominent New York City-based law firm providing a full range of legal services. As a powerhouse mid-size firm, we regularly advise on many of the country's most preeminent legal matters, but our size allows us to maintain an enduring culture of collaboration. This position is responsible for running conflicts checks, identifying and analyzing potential conflicts of interest, supporting the Firm’s professional responsibility and ethical obligations and client relationships. Reporting to the General Counsel and the Conflicts & Information Governance Manager, the Conflicts Attorney will work closely with partners, legal recruiting, and administrative teams across offices to facilitate the timely clearance of new matters and lateral hires. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex conflicts issues while operating in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This role is a senior member of the broader Conflicts & Information Governance team. The position may also assist with research into relevant information governance issues, offer compliance recommendations, prepare and provide training, and work closely with the General Counsel on related tasks requiring legal expertise. Responsibilities • Run and analyze conflict checks for new client matters and lateral candidates using the Firm’s conflicts and intake systems. • Conduct detailed research on parties, including corporate structures, affiliates, and ownership, to ensure accurate identification of potential conflicts. • Identify, assess, and resolve conflicts of interest, applying sound judgment and a practical, solutions-oriented approach. • Serve as a trusted advisor to partners and internal stakeholders, balancing legal risk with business considerations. • Manage the lateral, legal recruitment conflicts clearance process from initial submission through onboarding. • Communicate directly with candidates regarding the conflicts process and expectations. • Draft, review, and coordinate conflict waivers, engagement terms, and related documentation. • Review outside counsel guidelines and advise on compliance with client requirements. • Implement and maintain ethical screens to protect confidential information. • Support attorney arrivals/departures and transitions (client/matter portability, ethical obligations, and records handoff). • Partner with the General Counsel on developing and refining conflicts policies, procedures, training programs, and best practices. • Assist in mentoring and training junior team members, as appropriate. • Support the team’s wider risk management initiatives around new business intake, outside counsel guideline compliance, client risk assessments, vendor management, and records management as needed. Qualifications • J.D. from an accredited law school and active New York bar admission in good standing. • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a law firm conflicts department or commensurate relevant conflicts experience through practicing in a large or mid-sized firm environment. • Demonstrated ability to independently run conflicts checks, interpret results, and drive resolution of complex issues. • Strong understanding of Rules of Professional Conduct across multiple jurisdictions. • Ability to analyze corporate structures, transactional relationships, and litigation matters. • Experience drafting conflict waivers and advising on ethical screens. • Excellent judgment, with the ability to balance risk and business priorities in a practical way. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence working directly with partners and senior stakeholders. • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage a high volume of time-sensitive matters. • Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information. • Knowledge and experience working with conflicts and intake systems, document management systems, and related processes in mid-to-large-sized law firms. This is an EXEMPT position in the New York Office. The range of base salary* the Firm reasonably expects to pay for this role is $130,000-$175,000. The actual base salary for this role within the above range will depend upon the number of years out of law school, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law. *This range does not include other forms of compensation or benefits that may be offered in connection with the job.
