Hermes Landscaping is seeking a driven Accounting Manager to support our VP of Accounting in leading financial operations. With over 6 decades of family owned and operated excellence as Kansas City’s premier landscaping provider, we’re looking for a detail-oriented leader to oversee daily accounting functions, drive process improvements, and help develop a high-performing team that embodies our passion for excellence and culture.

The Role
As Accounting Manager for our dynamic landscaping company, you’ll partner with leadership to ensure accurate, timely financial operations. You will manage general accounting, lead reporting and audits, mentor staff, and implement strategies that support departmental goals—all while fostering a collaborative, results-focused team environment.
Core Responsibilities Include:
- Accounting Operations: Oversee accounts payable, receivable, general ledger, invoicing, billing, and tax compliance.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Deliver timely data analytics, assist in GAAP statement preparation, and support quarterly/year-end audits.
- Process Improvement: Assess practices, recommend enhancements, and develop technical accounting policies and procedures.
- Team Leadership: Manage performance, set goals, provide training, and build strong employee relationships.
- Audit & Closing Support: Collaborate with external auditors for accurate, on-time year-end reporting.
- Strategic Alignment: Contribute to departmental strategy, resource allocation, and culture-building initiatives.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Accounting Expertise: 5 years progressive experience, including supervisory role; landscaping/construction background preferred.
- Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance; CPA or MBA highly preferred.
- Analytical Proficiency: Strong trend/financial analysis and Microsoft Suite skills (especially Excel).
- Leadership & Communication: Proven ability to lead teams, manage deadlines, and maintain professional relationships.
- Organizational Agility: Detail-oriented with exceptional follow-through in a fast-paced environment.
- Positive Drive: Self-motivated, flexible, and committed to excellence and team success.
