Position Summary:
The Dietary Manager oversees the planning, preparation, and service of meals that meet residents' nutritional needs while complying with health and safety regulations. This role ensures meals are appealing, nutritionally balanced, and tailored to residents’ dietary restrictions and preferences. The manager supervises kitchen staff, manages food service budgets, ensures sanitation compliance, and supports the overall wellness of residents.
Plan, develop, and implement meal programs that meet dietary guidelines and resident preferences.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local food safety regulations (e.g., ServSafe, DOH).
Prepare or oversee the preparation of meals in accordance with prescribed diets (diabetic, low-sodium, mechanical soft, etc.).
Maintain proper documentation for dietary services, including resident dietary assessments and kitchen inspection records.
Supervise, schedule, and train dietary staff (cooks, aides, servers).
Monitor food inventory, place orders, and manage vendors to ensure cost-effective purchasing.
Coordinate with nursing and care staff to accommodate medical and therapeutic diets.
Conduct regular audits of kitchen cleanliness, food quality, and meal service.
Respond to resident feedback and adjust menus or services accordingly.
Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained and functioning safely.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; degree in nutrition, dietetics, food service management, or related field preferred.
Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) or equivalent certification preferred or required based on state regulations.
Minimum 2 years of food service management experience, preferably in long-term care or assisted living.
Knowledge of dietary requirements for seniors and individuals with chronic health conditions.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to manage budgets and food service operations effectively.
Familiarity with electronic dietary management systems (optional but preferred).
