What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical RN - Vascular Access position at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital?
Job Summary:
Responsible for all standards of care and practice related to the insertion of peripheral IVs, midline catheters and peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC). Monitors all existing central and midline catheters, with exception of tunneled hemodialysis catheters. Acts as a spokesperson for patient care related to line placement, maintenance and removal and as a subject matter expert to the staff and patients regarding nursing patient care issues related to all lines.
Licensure and Certification:
- Current California RN license
- Current BLS provider card
- Current ACLS provider card
Education:
- Associates degree in Nursing required
- Bachelors degree in Nursing preferred
- Board certified in Vascular Access preferred/required within one year of hire
Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in acute care setting
- Minimum of Two (2) years’ experience Critical Care experience required
Knowledge and Skills:
- Data collection experience preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Strong organizational skills
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Experience with regulatory standards preferred
- Basic computer skills
Physical Demands – Patient Care:
· Continuous standing/walking and occasional/intermittent sitting.
· Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and shoulder level to handle/operate medical equipment/devices.
· Frequent reaching above shoulder level and overhead.
· Frequent forward bending, twisting, squatting and kneeling; occasional climbing.
· Occasional repositioning and transferring patients weighing up to 200 pounds between bed, chair, and gurney.
· Occasional lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
· Occasional/intermittent pushing of gurneys, wheelchairs, bed and other medical equipment over tiled and carpeted surfaces.
· Continuous use of near vision to read medical equipment such as monitoring devices and reading documents and computer screens; hearing and verbal communication to interact with patients, co-workers, and other customers.
