Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Waukegan, IL, for an Operations Scheduler. The Operations Scheduler is responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining daily labor schedules across production shifts to ensure production lines are properly staffed. This role assigns employees to lines based on skill, monitors hours worked to prevent overtime risks, and partners closely with temp agencies to ensure appropriate staffing levels. The Operations Scheduler supports efficient plant operations by ensuring the right people are in the right place at the right time. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, the ability to work collaboratively, and a commitment to operational excellence.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain daily and weekly labor schedules across both shifts.
  • Assign employees to production lines based on skill, qualifications, and operational needs.
  • Adjust schedules in real time based on call-offs, production changes, and staffing shortages.
  • Rotate temporary employees according to company requirements and agency guidelines.
  • Monitor employee hours daily to identify and prevent overtime risks.
  • Flag hour-limit concerns and collaborate with supervisors to reduce unnecessary overtime.
  • Partner with staffing agencies to communicate daily labor needs and confirm attendance.
  • Track performance, attendance, and rotation requirements for temporary employees.
  • Report call-offs, no-shows, and line changes to agencies accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain daily staffing logs, schedules, and headcount reports.
  • Prepare and distribute daily labor summaries to designated audience.
  • Prepares and shares scheduling-related KPI reports with management when required.
  • Support data collection and reporting related to staffing efficiency and workforce utilization.
  • Communicate with supervisors and production teams to stay aligned on staffing priorities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to labor planning and line coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, GMP standards, and company policies.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet organizational goals.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1–3 years of production or scheduling experience in manufacturing preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to work across multiple departments and shifts.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling schedules and hour tracking.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn company systems quickly.
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and verbal communication) is required to perform scheduling tasks, document staffing changes, and communicate across departments.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Exposure to a manufacturing environment, including loud noises, equipment operation, and changing temperatures.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds when necessary.
  • May be required to work varying shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.

Pay Range and Benefits

Pay Range: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 depending on relevant experience and qualifications.
