Job Title: Teacher – Family and Consumer Science

Job Goal: The goal of this position is to create a passionate creative, and student-centered educator to serve as our Family and Consumer Science (FACS) Teacher. This part-time position (4 hours per day) will support Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways by teaching students foundational life skills through hands-on learning experiences in Sewing and Cooking.
The Family and Consumer Science Teacher will provide students with practical skills that promote independence, responsibility, creativity, and career exploration while building confidence in everyday life skills.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plans a program of study that is appropriate to the maturity and interest of students and meets their individual needs and abilities.
- Creates a positive classroom environment which upholds and enforces the school rules and is conducive to learning.
- The teacher will guide the learning process to increase student achievement in accordance with the curriculum and consistent with state and local standards.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required in a timely and confidential manner.
- Work with other professionals to determine special learning needs of pupils on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of specialists as required.
- Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on an ongoing basis concerning student academic and behavioral progress.
- The school professional adheres to the Board of Education policies, state rules and regulations, and to licensure standards.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence and serves on staff committees as required.
Courses and Responsibilities:
Sewing Pathway
Teach students the fundamentals of sewing, including hand sewing, machine sewing, fabric identification, measuring, pattern basics, and project creation
Help students develop creativity, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail through hands-on projects
Cooking Pathway
Teach students the fundamentals of cooking, including kitchen safety, food preparation, nutrition, meal planning, and basic culinary techniques
Promote healthy living habits and practical food preparation skills students can use throughout life
CTE Pathway Development:
This position supports the continued growth of Career and Technical Education opportunities at Hemphill Middle School by introducing students to valuable life skills and potential career pathways in family and consumer sciences.
Community Connections:
The teacher will help create opportunities for students to connect learning to real-world applications through projects, school events, and potential community partnerships that strengthen student engagement and career awareness.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid teaching license with appropriate endorsement or ability to obtain licensure (CTE endorsement preferred or willingness to pursue credentialing)
- Experience in family and consumer sciences, culinary arts, sewing, or related fields preferred
- Such alternatives to the above as the Board of Education may find appropriate.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: Between sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day lifting up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis and 10 pounds on a frequent basis, occasionally stooping, kneeling, crouching, overhead reaching and fine motor activity, frequently sitting, standing, walking, balancing, reaching at desk and floor level, firm and simple grasping. The work requires constant seeing, hearing, and talking.
FSLA Status: Exempt
Days / Terms of Employment: 160 Days / Nine-month position / Four Hours per Day. Salary to be determined by the School Board of Education.
