1.0 Reading Specialist Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

1. Highly qualified with required competency in the content area; and
2. Appropriate content/ program area educator license or eligible for licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; and
3. Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or
4. Master’s Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years
5. SEI endorsement through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
7. Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check.

Reports to:  Building Principal and Assistant Superintendent

Work Year: School Year (184 days)

Salary/Benefits: Consistent with the negotiated educator salary schedule

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Design, implement and utilize evidence based instruction from selected curriculum with well-structured units and lessons.
2. Have strong subject-matter knowledge.
3. Provide a safe and collaborative learning environment for all students.
4. Engage families and community members as necessary.
5. Collaborate with colleagues and engage in reflective practice.
6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel and students.
7. Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form.
8. Contribute to an overall school culture where ongoing personal and professional development is valued.
9. Collaborate with educators on support plans or students
10. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel and students. 
11. Ensure those strategies used support Pentucket’s curriculum goals. 

Specialty Areas:

1. Conduct reading assessments to identify students’ reading skills, strengths, and weaknesses.
2. Provide personalized reading instruction to students targeting needs as a central figure in the Multi-Tiered System of Support through in-class groups and pull-out groups.
3. Offer targeted interventions to help struggling readers improve their reading skills collaborating with other staff for a cohesive approach.
4. Collect, analyze and report out on data on student progress.
5. Manage and organize reading materials, resources, and tools to support effective instruction providing in-class support to teachers.
6. Work collaboratively with the district Literacy Team and Literacy Coordinator to implement consistent approaches to reading instruction for students who demonstrate areas of skill development weakness.

1. Ability to work in a normal classroom, office and school building environment.
2. Ability to move freely about the building to perform duties with staff.
3. Ability to utilize computers and other administrative technologies appropriate to the position.
