Mainframe Developer – Debit Card Modernization

Location: 100% Remote (Eastern Time Zone hours)

Duration: 24-months contract

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Programmer with strong batch processing expertise to support our banking client’s multi?year Debit Card Modernization program.

The ideal consultant will bring deep hands?on experience with debit card processing, Visa transaction flows, and complex mainframe batch systems. Given the current stage of the program, we do not have the capacity to train on these domains—prior experience is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and optimize mainframe batch programs supporting the Debit Card Modernization initiative.
• Work on critical components of debit processing including Visa?related modules, applying domain knowledge to accelerate delivery.
• Support areas where batch maturity is currently limited, helping stabilize and enhance batch workflows.
• Produce high?quality documentation to ensure clarity and continuity across teams.
• Contribute to robust testing practices, including validation of complex batch processes and data flows.
• Work collaboratively within a broader engineering and delivery team to help reduce delays
• Provide mainframe perspective and insights into areas that may not ultimately be converted but still require analysis and documentation.
  
  
  

Required Skills:

• Strong Mainframe programming background (e.g., COBOL, JCL, VSAM, utilities).
• Extensive batch processing experience in enterprise environments.
• Direct experience with debit processing systems and the Visa processing ecosystem—must have.
• Ability to operate independently and contribute meaningfully without heavy oversight or training.
• Strong documentation discipline and comfort with formal testing workflows.
