Job Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer III supports the design and production of cable and electronic assemblies for military and aerospace applications. The role develops engineering and manufacturing documentation compliant with AS9100, IPC/J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3, and MIL‑STD‑2042 standards.
Working with minimal supervision, the engineer reviews product specifications, identifies design and manufacturing risks prior to first‑article builds, and creates production instructions and standard methods. The position collaborates with management, engineering, production, quality, and test teams to improve product quality using lean manufacturing principles.
As an experienced team member, the engineer provides project leadership, mentors junior engineers, and works cross‑functionally to support new and legacy product needs. The role may also represent Manufacturing Engineering during customer meetings or site visits.

Manufacturing Process Development & Improvement
- Oversee the planning, development, implementation, and improvement of manufacturing methods, processes, and operations for new and existing products.
- Develop and apply continuous improvements to legacy manufacturing processes.
- Assist in development of new product lines and expansion of engineering department capabilities.
- Collaborate with management to develop competitive products, optimum production techniques, and successful training methods to improve quality.
- Collaborate with management to develop strategies to increase portfolio of products and streamline customized builds.
- Oversee the development of copper, coaxial/RF, fiber optic cable, and electronic assembly design drawings along with manufacturing build instructions containing a step by step assembly router.
- Conduct concurrent product design reviews to ready new products for industrialization and manufacturing by the production team.
- When required, perform the physical build of assemblies for design finalization, work instruction development, and/or manufacturing improvement initiatives.
- Perform design and development of assembly tooling, molding, fixturing, and harness form boards; validate tooling through measurement, testing, and first article builds.
- Develop test methods, programs, and equipment use processes for new and existing electronic and fiber optic product lines.
- Troubleshoot assembly problems, test failures, and tooling issues acting in supporting engineering role for the production floor.
- Utilize existing part inventory system (P21), production order system, build records and quality management system to evaluate build success and generate improvement strategies.
- Develop and conduct technical training procedures for entry level or newly hired Manufacturing Engineers and support their career development.
- Develop manufacturing training plans which include enhancing build competency, lean manufacturing, IPC/WHMA A 620 Class 3, MIL STD 2042, AS9100, and ISO 9001 quality standards to ensure production and assembly activities are optimally executed.
- Independently drive improvements to Trek Connect Quality Management System and represent Manufacturing Engineering during internal or customer-facing meetings.
- Complete product, company, and system compliance audits in accordance with Trek QMS and AS9100 standards.
- Provide engineering support during annual AS9100 audits as required.
- Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in the design and assembly of connector, copper, and fiber optic cable/harness assemblies in the Military and Aerospace industry is required.
- Familiarity with electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive parts and protection requirements in accordance with ANSI/ESD S20.20.
- Familiarity with AS9100/ISO9001 Quality Management System standard.
- Certification and/or experience with IPC/J-STD-001 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 construction standards.
- Certification and/or experience with MIL-STD-2042 Navy Shipboard Fiber Optic Installation standards.
- Knowledge of electrical and fiber optic test methodology, comprehension, and creation of test procedures.
- Have or obtain Lean 6σ Green Belt certification within 1 year of start date

- Technical & Engineering Skills Proficient in specifying, qualifying, and maintaining manufacturing equipment, tooling, and fixturing; skilled in electrical testing using high-voltage computer-controlled testers, RF analyzers, oscilloscopes, and related instrumentation.
- Quality & Problem Solving Leads defect analysis and quality initiatives through direct observation and data-driven analytics; adept at rapidly diagnosing and resolving technical issues in fast-paced production environments.
- Design & Modeling Creates 2D drawings with GD&T compliance using AutoCAD or equivalent; develops 3D models using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software. Highly proficient with 3D model printing using CURA or similar software.
- Project & Program Management Manages multiple concurrent projects while adapting to evolving customer requirements and maintaining critical delivery schedules.
