Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for adults in the PCU, including ongoing assessment and monitoring of clinical status
- Administer medications and therapies per physician orders; adjust plans of care in collaboration with the care team
- Document care in the medical record and communicate shift handoffs clearly to oncoming staff
- Recognize and respond to patient safety issues; utilize patient handling equipment and lifts as needed
- Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and multidisciplinary teams; participate in discharge planning and patient education
- Demonstrate leadership and effective delegation; may assume charge nurse duties as assigned
- Maintain composure and perform effectively in high-stress situations; apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Requirements
- Current NYS RN license
- BLS required; ACLS required; PALS preferred
- NIHSS certification within the first 6 months of employment
- Basic lethal dysrhythmia certification within six months of employment
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- Current or recent critical care experience preferred
- Traveler assignment history required: at least 1 successful traveler assignment completed; new travelers not considered
- Ability to work 12-hour night shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call as required
- Prior experience in a hospital PCU setting is desirable
