The Opportunity
The Operations/Monitoring Engineer is a hybrid technical and leadership role responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of the organization’s IT infrastructure. This position oversees daily operations, leads a team of network administrators and security personnel, and drives the design and implementation of monitoring frameworks that support a Microsoft-centric environment. The ideal candidate will provide tactical troubleshooting, strategic planning, and consistent team mentorship to maintain a stable, secure, and proactive operations function.
What you’ll do
Operational Oversight & Monitoring
- Oversee daily operations of IT systems, network components, and security controls across on-premise and cloud environments.
- Implement, manage, and continuously improve monitoring tools, dashboards, and alerting systems (e.g., Azure Monitor, Sentinel, Defender, Intune).
- Analyze monitoring data to identify trends, mitigate risks, and prevent service disruptions through proactive incident avoidance.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), runbooks, escalation workflows, and communication protocols.
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage the operations team, including network administrators, system engineers, and security personnel.
- Oversee work allocation, performance management, and professional development for team members.
- Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture focused on accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex operational or security issues, guiding the team to swift and effective resolution.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Architecture, Application Development, Security, and Data teams to align operational practices with enterprise goals.
- Work with cross-functional stakeholders to diagnose and resolve system issues, integrate new technologies, and streamline workflows.
- Participate in planning and execution of maintenance windows, deployments, upgrades, and major IT initiatives.
Best Practices, Governance & Security
- Develop, implement, and enforce operational best practices for system uptime, patching, change control, and incident management.
- Contribute to network and security oversight, including firewall management, endpoint hardening, vulnerability remediation, and compliance alignment.
- Ensure systems and documentation meet organizational and regulatory requirements (SOC, HIPAA, internal risk assessments, etc.).
Qualifications
What we expect from you
- Bachelor's degree in IT/Computer Science/Network Engineering or related field.
- Proven experience as an Operations, Monitoring, or Systems Engineer in a Microsoft-centric enterprise environment.
- Strong leadership experience with a track record of managing or mentoring IT operations teams.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft technologies, including Azure, M365, Active Directory, Intune, Defender, and related monitoring/security tools.
- Solid understanding of network administration, routing/switching, firewalls, and security protocols.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and incident management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
Desired Qualifications
- Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Azure Security Engineer, MS-500, AZ-104, or similar credentials.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred), virtualization, backup/DR solutions, and infrastructure automation.
- Familiarity with SIEM/SOAR tools, identity protection, endpoint management, and enterprise security frameworks.
- Experience in regulated environments (healthcare, HIPAA, SOC 1/2) is a strong plus.

- Hybrid work environment with a combination of remote and on-site collaboration, depending on organizational needs.
- Fast-paced, highly collaborative setting that involves cross-functional coordination.
- May require occasional off-hours work during system updates.
- Standard office hours with flexibility as needed to support operations.

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $95,000-$135,000*
