Why does the job exist?
The Family Assistance Program Supervisor will:
- Provide timely and appropriate customer services in determining clients' eligibility;
- Provide effective leadership, problem resolution, and training to Income Support Division (ISD) staff in order to ensure that the office follows the County Plan of Operations in meeting performance goals of timeliness, accuracy, and customer service in accordance with federal and state standards and regulations as well as those outlined in the state and county corrective action plans and initiatives;
- Supervise a unit of Family Assistance Analysts (FAA) who are responsible for determining multiple Income Support Programs and providing employment assistance to a diverse population.
How does it get done?
The Family Assistance Program Supervisor is responsible for:
- Advancing department/division goals for client self-sufficiency by promoting client placement and maintaining positive relationships with work contractor and other community entities;
- Developing employees by coaching and counseling employees using currently accepted management practices, the Health Care Authority (HCA) Code of Conduct and the County Plan of Operations.

Ideal Candidate
The Ideal Candidate has experience:
- Independently managing a caseload;
- Interviewing clients and assessing income potential based on language and vocational skill, education level, training needs and employment history;
- Providing complex case management and problem resolutions;
- Providing consultation and training to co-workers.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in any field and two (2) years of experience in unemployment insurance claims and/or tax, accounting, auditing, finance, budgeting, eligibility determination/interviewing, clerical work, customer service, data entry, and/or interviewing in a public welfare or social welfare program. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. One (1) year of supervisory experience may substitute for one (1) year of experience.Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.
Employment is subject to a pre-employment criminal history background investigation and is conditional pending results.
