What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Controller position at Headfarmer?
Are you a hands-on financial leader who thrives in building structure from the ground up? A rapidly scaling manufacturing company backed by private equity is seeking a Controller to professionalize the finance function, establish scalable processes, and ensure accuracy and integrity across financial reporting during a high-growth phase.
This is a high-impact, builder-style role with direct influence on systems, controls, and the evolving finance infrastructure. The ideal candidate is energized by change, process improvement, and rolling up their sleeves in an environment transitioning from legacy practices to modern, data-driven discipline.
What You Will Lead
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activity and ensure proper recording of transactions
- Design, communicate, and roll out consistent procedural standards across finance functions
- Guide, support, and help develop a small accounting team
- Manage month-end responsibilities, supporting schedules, and account reconciliations
- Strengthen internal controls and documentation across order-to-cash and purchase-to-pay cycles
- Produce financial statements and management reports that align with professional standards
- Provide insights into monthly performance, operational drivers, and trends
- Partner closely with external audit and tax professionals, serving as main point of contact
- Assist with budgeting and cash forecasting as responsibilities expand
- Introduce workflow improvements and technology usage that reduce manual work
What Makes You a Strong Fit
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field (CPA beneficial)
- Experience progressing within accounting roles, ideally reaching a leadership level
- Manufacturing industry experience and knowledge of inventory management
- Ability to implement structure in an environment that is evolving and lacks detailed documentation
- Comfortable with imperfect or outdated systems while improving them
- Demonstrated examples of process improvement or financial system enhancements
- Experience interacting with auditors and preparing detailed deliverables
- Confident communicator who leads with clarity, accountability, and mentorship
- Background in private-equity environments or manufacturing operations is a plus
Ideal Candidate Profile
You are a confident, solutions-driven accounting professional who thrives in environments full of potential but lacking structure. You're excited to build, not just maintain. You see the big picture while owning the details — and you don’t get rattled by legacy systems or rapid change.
