Clinical Supervisor - Emporia

Position Summary

The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for providing clinical oversight, supervision, and leadership to clinical staff, delivering community-based mental health services. This role ensures that services are delivered in accordance with agency policies, ethical standards, and all applicable state and federal regulations, including Medicaid and Virginia DBHDS/DMAS requirements. The Clinical Supervisor promotes high-quality, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care while supporting staff development, regulatory compliance, documentation integrity, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Education Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Nursing, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Must hold one of the following Virginia licenses:
    • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or LPC-Resident (LPC-R)
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or LCSW-Resident (LCSW-R)
    • Licensed Mental Health Professional-Resident (LMHP-R)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical experience in behavioral health.
  • At least 1–2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of direct experience working in community mental health in accordance with VDBHDS/DMAS regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting:
    • Clinical screenings and assessments
    • Psychosocial evaluations
    • Diagnostic formulation
    • Treatment planning
    • Documentation review in compliance with Medicaid and VDBHDS/DMAS standards
  • Experience preparing and submitting Service Request Authorizations (SRA) and Continued Stay Reviews to Managed Care Organizations (MCOs).

  • Competence in risk management, crisis intervention, and ethical decision-making.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, families, and community partners.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive and client-centered care.

Travel Requirements

This position requires regular local travel within the service area, including client homes, schools, and community-based settings. Reliable transportation and the ability to travel as needed are required.

Essential Job Duties

  • Conduct consultations and intake interviews for individuals and families; complete psychosocial assessments; formulate accurate DSM diagnoses; prepare initial Individual Service Plans (ISPs)/Treatment Plans.


  • Prepare and submit Initial Service Request Authorizations (SRAs) and Continued Stay Reviews to appropriate Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) in a timely manner.


  • Provide individual and group clinical supervision and training to QMHP staff; review, approve, and ensure compliance of clinical documentation.


  • Provide direct individual, family, and group counseling services as clinically indicated.


  • Prepare quarterly reports, discharge summaries, and required outcome documentation.


  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations and quality assurance initiatives.
