Position Summary
The Production Supervisor will be directly responsible for motivating the production team, maintaining 95% On-Time Delivery of products through manufacturing by interfacing with purchasing, sales and engineering, and ensuring the quality of the product remains at our standard through proper training in each skill.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with Purchasing and Quality to schedule the shop activities on jobs to ensure >95% OTD and warranty rates <0.5% cost of sales.
- Manage the hourly team to minimize indirect labor activity.
- Maintain a training log for each employee in each department, ensure teams are cross-trained.
- Maintain and improve upon daily shop scheduling practices.
- Lead daily production team meeting.
- Follow and create safety plans, ensure any safety issues are addressed in a timely fashion with maintenance and the safety coordinators.
- Maintain departmental day-to-day production activities, monitor and prioritize workflow and schedules.
- Supervise production staff and give technical direction and/or engage proper help as required.
- Work with department supervisors, quality, safety and maintenance staff to continue to make each are of the factory safe, clean and lean.
- Prepare and maintain capacity plans for each machine group.
- Build and maintain routings for each product group in the MRP system.
- Work with building maintenance to ensure machinery operating efficiently and is safe. Work with team to suggest and implement process changes for improved productivity and quality.
- Assist in hiring, training and reviewing performance of staff.
Experience and Education Required
- Bachelors degree in either Manufacturing Engineer or Operations Management (or equivalent).
- 3 – 5 years of experience working in a lean manufacturing environment.
- 1-3 years direct responsibility for improving quality, safety and/or productivity of a production department.
- 1-3 years of experience working with an MRP or ERP system.
Technical Skills and Desired Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, etc.) and e-mail.
- Strong skills in MS Excel (Pivot Tables, Pivot Charts, and interfacing with databases)
- Toyota Production System, 5S, DMAIC or other Lean Manufacturing system training a plus.
- Able to demonstrate leadership and coaching abilities.
- Experience working with a union staff.
