The Lead Power Distribution and Generation Instructor is responsible for planning, developing, and teaching power distribution and generation in the classroom and hands-on field training. This includes ensuring instruction aligns with industry standards, safety regulations, college policy and procedure, and the operational needs of the program.
  • Teach all assigned courses for the full duration of scheduled instruction. This will include assisting in the CDL program to ensure lineworker students receive a CDL. 
  • Work with local employers for needs assessments 
  • Recruit qualified instructors for advanced courses.
  • Plan and deliver comprehensive training in line construction, maintenance, operations, and de-energized line work. 
  • Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains relevancy and consistency with industry best practices. 
  • Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback.
  • Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning.
  • Maintain instructional areas and ensure proper operation of classroom/lab equipment, reporting any malfunctions or necessary preventative and routine maintenance promptly. 
  • Ensure the safety of instructors and students by working with the Coordinator of Safety Services for compliance to ensure all OSHA and DOT requirements are met. 
  • Ensure regular safety inspections for all aspects of the class are complete as required.
  • Ensure all instructors and students are following the safety policies and procedures in place.
  • Maintain cleanliness of instructional areas and laboratories.
  • Provide real-world demonstrations of lineworker tasks, including pole climbing, equipment uses and safety procedures. 
  • Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in laboratory and/or clinical settings to meet program needs.
  • Recommend textbooks and other instructional materials, including classroom and laboratory equipment to Dean or Coordinator.
  • Promote safety by teaching and modeling OSHA regulations, National Electrical Safety Code standards and other industry guidelines. 
  • Support the efforts of the Lineworker program in addressing recruitment and retention of students. 
  • Develop and distribute course syllabi according to established template providing appropriate information to      students concerning course expectations and evaluation criteria.
  • Remain updated on guidelines and procedures for state and national certification requirements 
  • Create a student-centered environment for on and off campus students  
  • Work toward operational excellence; continuous improvement of processes and seek help from advisory committees
  • Implement innovative strategies to meet the needs of students and improve processes 
  • Interact with co-workers and perform tasks with the highest level of integrity 
  • Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, and our learning community 
  • Promote and support HCC’s mission, vision, and values and promote and support coworkers in the most positive manner.
Minimum
High School Diploma or equivalent 
10 years documented field work as a Journeyman Lineman or higher, including hands on experience in line construction, maintenance, and repairs. 
Knowledge of RUS specifications and proficiency in linework operations 
Valid Class A CDL with a clean record.
Bucket Rescue Training
Arc Flash training upon hire

Preferred
Associates Degree in Electrical Line Construction, Electrical Systems Technology or closely related field
5 years of supervisory experience as a Foreman or higher.
Experience in underground power.
Experience in power generation including water turbines, solar and wind power. 
Experience teaching or training in a professional or educational setting. 
Must meet all minimum requirements.
