What are the responsibilities and job description for the FT Lead Power Distribution and Generation Instructor position at Haywood Community College?
Primary Purpose of Position
The Lead Power Distribution and Generation Instructor is responsible for planning, developing, and teaching power distribution and generation in the classroom and hands-on field training. This includes ensuring instruction aligns with industry standards, safety regulations, college policy and procedure, and the operational needs of the program.
Essential Job Duties- Teach all assigned courses for the full duration of scheduled instruction. This will include assisting in the CDL program to ensure lineworker students receive a CDL.
- Work with local employers for needs assessments
- Recruit qualified instructors for advanced courses.
- Plan and deliver comprehensive training in line construction, maintenance, operations, and de-energized line work.
- Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains relevancy and consistency with industry best practices.
- Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback.
- Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning.
- Maintain instructional areas and ensure proper operation of classroom/lab equipment, reporting any malfunctions or necessary preventative and routine maintenance promptly.
- Ensure the safety of instructors and students by working with the Coordinator of Safety Services for compliance to ensure all OSHA and DOT requirements are met.
- Ensure regular safety inspections for all aspects of the class are complete as required.
- Ensure all instructors and students are following the safety policies and procedures in place.
- Maintain cleanliness of instructional areas and laboratories.
- Provide real-world demonstrations of lineworker tasks, including pole climbing, equipment uses and safety procedures.
- Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in laboratory and/or clinical settings to meet program needs.
- Recommend textbooks and other instructional materials, including classroom and laboratory equipment to Dean or Coordinator.
- Promote safety by teaching and modeling OSHA regulations, National Electrical Safety Code standards and other industry guidelines.
- Support the efforts of the Lineworker program in addressing recruitment and retention of students.
- Develop and distribute course syllabi according to the established template, providing appropriate information to students concerning course expectations and evaluation criteria.
- Remain updated on guidelines and procedures for state and national certification requirements
- Create a student-centered environment for on and off-campus students
- Work toward operational excellence; continuous improvement of processes and seek help from advisory committees
- Implement innovative strategies to meet the needs of students and improve processes
- Interact with co-workers and perform tasks with the highest level of integrity
