Scientific Director
Haymarket Media, Inc. is seeking a Scientific Director to join the PRI team. This position is located in our Paramus, NJ or New York, NY office, with three days on-site (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and a team flex day) and two days remote.
Job Overview:
The Scientific Director (SD) assumes responsibility for understanding the scientific and clinical aspects of their assigned accounts and serves as a key strategic source for both clients and internal teams. This includes original and derivative content development, faculty and client support, and collaboration with other content developers, thought leaders, account team members, and clients. The SD will be responsible for the quality, integrity, scientific and medical accuracy, and timeliness of assigned projects.
The SD must demonstrate a high level of comfort in articulating strategic direction and tactical recommendations. This is a client-facing position and being seen as a valued client partner is critical to this role.
Responsibilities:
Assume individual responsibility for clinical content development across print, live, and digital formats, in accordance with established budgets, timelines, and strategic objectives
Demonstrate in-depth scientific knowledge in one or more therapeutic areas, acting as the main point of contact for clients and authors for individual projects, keeping abreast of disease-specific advances/guidelines/competitor activity
Ensure that projects reflect a thorough understanding of clients’ product strategy and communication objectives and that scientific statements are supported appropriately
Develop content for, travel to, and participate in off-site programs (eg, advisory boards) outside of normal working hours on an as-needed basis
Actively participate as a member of new business pitch teams when needed
Use extensive medical communications experience to recommend innovative and effective solutions for specific client needs
Review, edit, and approve medical content of other staff to ensure the delivery of comprehensive, high-quality, scientifically accurate programs
Mentor and train other scientific services team members
Continue to develop your strategic skill set in an effort to uncover the most compelling way in which to differentiate a brand or franchise from a medically viable, but compelling perspective.
Develop effective collaborative working relationships with fellow employees, clients, faculty, and vendors
Participate in medical/legal/regulatory reviews as needed
Travel within the US and internationally as necessary to client meetings, events (e.g. advisory boards), pitches, etc (~25% travel)
Financial Accountability:
Complete timesheets accurately and on time
Complete and submit expense reports on time
Qualifications:
Advanced degree in a scientific or medical discipline (PharmD, PhD, MD) required
4 years of experience working in a medical communications agency setting or equivalent pharmaceutical industry developing content for print, digital, and live programs
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt approach according to the needs of clients and teams, and the ability to respond quickly to situations and manage internal /external issues
Experience in, and ability to understand, multiple therapeutic areas and the effective use of multiple delivery platforms
Demonstrated aptitude for learning, interpreting, and communicating medical data in visual and written outputs, adapted for a range of healthcare audiences
Ability to work across multiple projects and accounts simultaneously
Meticulous attention to detail, and understanding of medical terminology
Team player able to work independently and collaboratively with scientific team and other departments
Advanced computer literacy necessary, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications such as PowerPoint and Word, Google Suite such as Slides, Docs in addition to online medical resource searching (eg Ovid, Medline, PubMed, etc.)

The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $140,000. Compensation will be commensurate with experience, skill level, functional and/or industry knowledge, education level, certifications, as well as other qualifications.
