Position Summary
The Purchasing Supervisor is a hands-on, working leadership role responsible for overseeing procurement activities while actively executing purchasing functions for engineered heat exchanger components and raw materials. This position requires strong technical aptitude, including the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, understand fabrication processes, and collaborate directly with fabricators and suppliers to ensure parts are manufactured to specification, quality, and delivery requirements.
The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of manufacturing processes, supplier development, and strategic sourcing, combined with the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced, custom fabrication environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor purchasing team members while remaining actively engaged in daily procurement activities
- Source and procure critical components such as tubing, plates and fabricated assemblies
- Work directly with fabricators, machine shops, and specialty vendors
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and contract terms
- Manage purchase orders and ensure on-time delivery
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5–8 years of purchasing experience in manufacturing
- Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred
- Experience in heat exchanger or heavy fabrication industry strongly preferred

- Strong understanding of machining, welding, forming, and fabrication processes
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and BOMs
