Job Description
The Operations Technician supports safe and efficient plant and production operations by working closely with control room personnel, supervisors, and field teams. This role is responsible for monitoring equipment, coordinating daily operational activities, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards. The position requires strong teamwork, communication, and technical knowledge of production systems and processes.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with control room personnel and operations teams to ensure safe execution of work activities
- Support daily plant and production operations, ensuring efficiency and compliance with procedures
- Monitor and perform routine surveillance of equipment and operational systems
- Assist in coordinating maintenance activities, including reviewing work plans and ensuring proper isolation procedures
- Participate in equipment startup, commissioning, and system completion activities
- Issue and/or endorse work permits and ensure adherence to safety protocols
- Maintain accurate daily logs, reports, and shift handover documentation
- Communicate operational updates, issues, and changes across teams effectively
- Perform minor maintenance tasks and assist with troubleshooting operational issues
- Ensure proper housekeeping standards are maintained across assigned areas
- Participate in emergency response activities and safety drills
- Make process adjustments as needed to maintain product quality within specifications
- Safely perform physical tasks such as lifting, climbing, and handling materials
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in industrial operations, production, or a related field
- Strong understanding of production systems and operational processes
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and shutdown logic diagrams
- Knowledge of safety systems, procedures, and tools (e.g., permit to work, job safety analysis, risk assessments)
- Familiarity with maintenance coordination and equipment isolation practices
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces
- Commitment to maintaining high safety, environmental, and operational standards
- Ability to adapt to changing work conditions and priorities
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or additional certifications preferred
